Iggie's House by Judy Blume

Winnie's best friend, Iggie, moves to Tokyo. The neighbourhood will never be the same again and Winnie is miserable. Then the first coloured people in the area move into Iggie's house. At first Winnie is shy and thinks that they may be different. The Garber family are lonely because there are many racist people who don't want to accept them. Winnie does and soon becomes best friends with Tina Garber. 

Safiya said: " I liked this story because after apartheid in this county Winnie's story is a good lesson to all the children who want to make a rainbow nation."

Lionboy by Zizou Corder

Charlie Ashanti is the son of Professor Magladen Start and Dr. Aneba Shanti. And he can speak cat. When Charlie's parents get kidnapped, it's up to Charlie to save them. When Rafi Sadler tries to kidnap Charlie, he hops aboard a ship which leads onto a circus ship called the Cire. Along with the jelp of six lions, Charlie has to save his parents. 

Cleo says " I thought it was brilliant. I love the cub called Elsina as well. She is so cute (that's how she was described in the story)."

My Sister the Vampire by Sienna Mercer

This book is about a teenage girl who goes to a new school. Somehow she bumps into a girl that looks just like her. They both discover they are actually adopted. Are Ivy and Olivia twins? Find out for yourself.

Caitlin says: "I really like the book because when they meet Ivy says they should switch so Olivia could help Ivy by going to a meeting dressed like her. Ivy then goes to Olivia's cheer leading practice. This book is cool and funny and I hope you enjoy it too."

Unicorn School: Team Magic by Linda Chapman

Willow, Sapphire, Storm and Troy are in their first year at unicorn school. They are almost finished their first year and now they have to take their exams. Everyone is nervous but nobody is more nervous then Troy who tries to cheat in his History exam. The Tricorn unicorn gives Troy a chance to tell him that he did it but he almost gets Sapphire in trouble before he owns up, but it all ends well.

Hannah says: "I like this book because its about unicorns and it's very magical."

Lola Rose by Jacquleine Wilson

Lola  Rose, her mom and her little brother Kendal escape from their abusive dad and move to London to start a new life. After winning the lottery life seems perfect. But money doesn't last forever. Constantly living in fear of their dad finding them they have to find a house and a school. Then mom starts going out at late hours and even though  Lola Rose was told not to worry she does. Nothing seems to go right for this unfortunate family.

Caitlin says: "I enjoyed this book tremendously. I felt great empathy for the characters and anger towards them to .I recommend this book to older readers."

The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan

The Red Pyramid is an exciting action book about two kids aged 12 and 14 called Sadie and Carter Kane. Basically, Sadie and Carter's dad tried to release the Egyptian god of death, Osiris, from the Recette stone to bring his wife (Sadie and Carter's mom) back to life. But instead he releases the five gods, Horus, Isis, Osiris, Nephthys and Set sons and daughters of Nut and Geb, Goddess of sky and god of Earth. Set, god of chaos, trapped Sadie and Carter's dad in a magic coffin and sent him deep into the Duat (the ancient Egyptian underworld). Now, Sadie and Carter have to go on an epic adventure to try and save their father.

Connor says: "Reading The Red Pyramid has given me a new interest of Egyptian gods and now I'm totally fascinated and addicted about finding out more about the Egyptian gods. I would recommend this book to anyone who does not want to put a book down that is totally awesome!!!"

Seekers: Smoke Mountain

Seekers: Smoke Mountain by Erin Hunter

The four bears have left for the place of Endless Ice but on their journey there Kallik's brother, Taqqiq, took her on a hunting expedition but really wanted to take Kallik and run away. Kallik didn't want to leave her friends so she didn't go with him. Then they met an old bear named Oopuk who told them about the Last Great Wilderness and about the bear that goes hunting for bears at night. They eventually reached the place but Ujurak still isn't sure that their journey has ended.

Logan says: "I really liked the book because it was really interesting and daring. I also didn't get bored at any point in the book"

If Uncle Quentin had had the top-heavy ash tree chopped, the gale would have not brought it crashing down on Kirrin Cottage and then the Five would not have gone to Smuggler's Top to stay with Lenoir and his eccentric father. Once there, queer and highly suspicious things seemed to happen, one after another, including the mysterious disappearance of Uncle Quentin. Julian, Dick, George and Anne have a very puzzling adventure and Timmy the dog has his fair share of excitement, in and out of the underground passages, until he unearths something very interesting...

Zoe says: "I liked this book because it got me very excited, especially when Uncle Quentin disappeared, when I heard about what can happen when you step in this type of quicksand (many people have died there) and when they found a very exciting secret passage. 

The Beasts of Clawstone Castle

The Beasts of Clawstone Castle by Eva Ibbotson

Clawstone Castle is at least 2000 years old. It keeps cattle. On open days, they would raise as much money as they could to feed the cattle but Trembellow Towers always got all the visitors. Madlyn and Rollo felt sorry for the owners of Clawstone Castle. (Madlyn and Rollo are the owner's grandchildren). When the cattle are stolen its up to Madlyn and Rollo to save them along with Madlyn's friend, Ned.

Cleopatra says: "I liked it very much. I thought it was a very fun book. You never know what will happen next. It's also a very entertaining book. I recommend this for readers between the age of 8 and 20."

The Secret Mountain by Enid Blyton

When Mike, Peggy and Nora's parents disappear in Africa on a flying quest they run away to find them with their friends; Jack and Paul. They soon find out that their parents are being held prisoners on a Secret Mountain. But who are the dangerous red-haired people who live there and will they have enough time before they must return to England? Just why is the mountain yellow too?

Kimberly says: "My favourite part is when they find the way into the mountain but there is a surprise waiting for them. I love this book because it kept me in suspense and I always wanted to carry on reading it. It is funny and interesting. I love all Enid Blyton books, they are always well-written. I think this book is suitable for readers between the age of 7 and 12. If you like mystery then this book is for you. It also has some funny parts."

How To Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell

This book has adventure, dragons and vikings. This is a diary from a viking boy who is not like the other boys. He's a little on the short side but he can speak Dragonese. He's got a friend who is nearly as strange as him.

Allen says: " My favourtie part is when Hiccup becomes toothless and when they destroy a big dragon. For me, I think it's a great book and there's more books about Hiccup to enjoy. I would recommend this to people who love dragons and action between the ages of 9 and 12."

Kady and Jess are best friends forever, They think that nothing can tear them apart. Until Jack Somers gets in the way of EVERYTHING. Kady and Jess start to fight. Jack is ruining their friendship but they just don't realise it.

Mia says: "It was one of the best book I have ever read. It helps you realise what you can go through with friends or what you might have to go through with friends some day. I think this is a book for girls who are over the age of twelve. This is not suitable for younger children."

Jane Blonde, sensational spylet, is about to find out she has a godmother known as G-Mamma. G-Mamma tells Jane that she has a spy dad and a spy mum whose brains have been wiped and have now forgotten about spying. Janey now has to go on her first mission. 

Kiara says: "My favourite part is when Janey finally meets her dad. I think this book was awesome and gives good detail. After I read the book I felt like I'd actually become a spy."

The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith

This story is set in Mystic Falls. Elana Gilbert is no normal girl. After her parents died, she's never been quite the same but then she meets Stefan and everything in her life changes. Stefan has a dark secret and a bad history, though and Elana's about to find out!

Mia says; "My favourite part is when Elana finds out that her boyfriend, Stefan, is a vampire. I really enjoyed this story because I love horrors and I love vampires. I would recommend this book to teenage girls around about the age of 12-16 because it is both a horror and a teenage romance." 

A Totally Hottie Summer by Samantha Maridan

Lizzie MacGuire has just finished school for the summer. Nothing could go bad, or could it? Lizzie's mom has signed her up for a summer job. Could anything get worse? Well, you're going to have to read the book to find out!"

Jessica says; "There isn't a favourite part for me because every part is the best. I enjoyed the book. It's really good and I stayed up late to read this book so I hope you enjoy it! I recommend this to kids between the age of 8 and 11. This is a good book if you like funny stuff and if you like shopping."

Eragon by Christopher Paolini

This story was set a long, long time ago. The story takes place in Alagaesia. It is about a boy named Eragon who finds a blue and white stone and keeps it for a few days but one day the stone is gone! A dragon appears. Was the stone an egg? Or did someone steal the stone and the dragon found a way in? 

Jonothan says; "I didn't have a favourite part. I like the book. All of it. I think this book is a very,  very good book. I enjoyed the book a lot! I would recommend this book for people between the age of 9 and 12. It would also be good for people who like fantasy books."

Goosebumps: My Hairiest Adventure by R. L. Stine

This story takes place in America. Larry Boyd and his friends Lily, Jared, Kristina and Manny find an old Insta-Tan bottle. The label says "Rub it on and you will get a dark suntan". Larry and his friends do it but nothing happens. But then Larry suddenly grows black hair. What will Larry do?

Jordan says; "I think this book is a good book because it is surprising and funny at the same time and it explains the characters very well. My favourite part is when Larry and his friends' band win the Battle of the Bands becuase everyone thinks his black hair is a special effect! I recommend this book to kids who like surprises and kids between the age of 8 to 12. I think it is suited for girls and boys."

Wild Rescue: Polar Meltdown by S. Volger and J Buchet

This book is about two children who work for a secret organisation called Wild Rescue. They save endangered animals. Ben and Zoe have to go to Alaska to save two polar bear cubs because their mom was shot. Will Ben and Zoe make it?

Dylan says; "I really like this book. It was exciting and amazing. My favourite part is when Zoe is nearly killed by a polar bear but she sprays snow in its face. I recommend this for children between the ages of seven and nine. If you like books about saving animals then this series is for you.
